Our colorful, 3D mini model of ATP synthase will help your students better understand this important enzyme that provides energy for the cell. ATP synthase is a multi-subunit protein complex embedded in the inner membrane of mitochondria. The protein gradient that builds up across this membrane drives the rotation of the F0 complex and its associated gamma subunit in such a way that the F1 complex produces ATP – the universal currency of energy. Our mini model shows the entire protein complex embedded in a small section of lipid bilayer, with cutaways that reveal the individual subunits of the F0 complex and the ATP bound in one of the three active sites of the F1complex.
This 4" model is made of plaster by rapid prototyping and should be handled with care. Mini models will break if dropped, held tightly or handled roughly. It is based on theoretical PDB file IGG.pdb.
